Item Title:County Operations - County Coliseum 2024 Events

Subject:Approve and authorize the Chief Administrator to review and approve events that extend past the end date of the County's current agreement in accordance with Article 7.2 of the Facilities Management Agreement with the El Paso Sports Commission. 
Background:

On July 12, 2021, the El Paso County Commissioners Court entered into two separate agreements with the El Paso Sports Commission. The first - the Tourist Promotion Program Agreement - was designed to establish terms regarding the promotion of sporting tournaments, with an emphasis on youth amateur sports, and other events to bring tourists and visitors to El Paso County. The second - the Facility Management Agreement - was designed to establish terms regarding the selection of the El Paso Sports Commission to manage, operate, and market the El Paso County Coliseum and the Hockey Events Center.

 

Under Article 7, Section 7.2 of the Facilities Management Agreement, the "Manager shall have no authority, without the prior written consent of County, to enter into Material Contracts that extend past the end date of this agreement."  Therefore, the purpose of this item is to seek approval for the Chief Administrator to review and approve events in writing which will extend past the end date of our current agreement which is set to expire on September 30, 2024. 

 

This matter has been reviewed by the County Attorney’s Office.

Fiscal Impact:No fiscal impact to authorize the events; rather, additional revenue from the events will be generated if authorized.  
Recommendation:Approve and authorize the Chief Administrator to review and approve events that extend past the end date of the County's current agreement in accordance with Art. 7.2 of the Facilities Management Agreement with the El Paso Sports Commission. (Contract No. 2021-0406)
