| Background: | The Horizon Hills Embankment Improvements project was funded as part of FY21 CIP. The project consists of improving an earthen channel that requires maintenance that runs behind existing residential homes. The project begins at the foothills of the sand hills located the El Paso Hills subdivision. The area is mostly sandy loose material that washes onto the roadway during heavy rains. The project consist of redefining the slope of the channel and increasing the size of the channel to handle a larger volume of flow at a slower velocity. The County R&B staff reconstructed the channel in order to create a cost savings for the County. The portion that was bid out is to have a vendor concrete line newly reconstructed channel using concrete and steel reinforcement. Due to the fluctuation of material costs, in this case, steel and concrete, the lowest responsive bidder exceeded the funds set aside as part of this CIP project of $115,000 by $80,513. This to request of supplemental funds will allow the vendor to provide the original 400 linear feet of concrete lined channel to protect the embankment along the drainage way. |
