Position requests are typically considered in conjunction with the County’s budget process each year; however, at times, due to extenuating circumstances, positions may be considered by the Commissioners Court as a mid-year request depending on the operational needs of the County. While these particular positions were requested as part of the FY2022 budget hearings, the need for these positions is so critical that we are seeking the Court’s approval in advance.

Due to the expansion of additional pods within the Jail Annex, the duties and responsibilities of Facilities Maintenance have increased to the point where additional resources are needed to ensure quality and professional services are provided to the Sheriff’s Office. Also, due to the increase in work orders (100% since 2018), wear and tear, and vandalism, these additional resources will ensure our facilities are preserved and maintained in optimal condition.  

Individual Maintenance Mechanic (GS18) position: $54,927

Individual Maintenance Mechanic Sr. Plumber (GS25) position: $69,672

Operating Costs: $17,128 

Total cost for 6 positions: $361,432 ($68,116.12 for the remainder of FY21) 

($82,016 – including operating- for the remainder of FY21)
