Each year during budget hearings, various salary supplements are presented for consideration or for renewal in the upcoming fiscal year. Upon the Commissioners Court approval, our Budget team allocates such funding as necessary.
Due to the transition of the District Attorney's Office on January 1, 2021, salary supplements were analyzed and reconsidered under the new administration. In accordance with the County's Supplemental Stipend policy, positions qualifying to receive supplement stipends include those which are needed for distinct certification or licensing, specialized assignments, or as an incentive to fill a position in an area that is of critical need or requires specialized expertise.
Further, some departments have statutory authority to compensate employees where discretionary funds are available. Subject to the restrictions within the governing statute, departments may issue supplemental stipends to qualifying positions. In accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 59, forfeiture of contraband proceeds awarded to the District Attorney may be spent to increase a salary, expense, or allowance for an employee of the District Attorney, subject to the commissioners court approval of such increase.
These stipends have been reviewed by the Human Resources Department.
