Item Title:County Administration - County Historical Commission

Subject:Pursuant to Texas Local Government Code Section 318.003, discuss and take appropriate action to appoint members to the El Paso County Historical Commission for a two-year term ending on December 31, 2022.
Background:

Commissioners Court is responsible for appointing its board members in odd-numbered years. Once the board is appointed this action creates the number of seats for the board for that two year term period. If any of these seats are vacated for any reason, a new member can be appointed to fill the vacancy. However, additional seats will not be added during the term.

 

In accordance with the law that creates the County Historical Commission, the members of the commission must be individuals who broadly reflect the age, ethnic, and geographic diversity of the county. (Sec 318.003, Texas Local Government Code).

 

In accordance with the adopted County Board Rules and Procedures, and Texas Statue all 3 mandatory trainings Ethics, Open Meeting Act, and Public Information Act have been completed by the interviewed candidates.

Recommendation:Pursuant to Texas Local Government Code Section 318.003, discuss and take appropriate action to appoint members to the El Paso County Historical Commission for a two-year term ending on December 31, 2022.
Prior Action:

Commissioners Court conducted County Historical Commission interviews on the Special Session of January 26, 2021.

 

The full board of 19 members was last appointed on February 4, 2019 for a two-year term ending December 31, 2020.
