(Contract No. 2020-0877) | | Background: | The Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) awards grants to Counties reimbursing a porting of the Counties' indigent defense costs under a formula basis which considers both the County's population and indigent defense expenditures during the prior fiscal year. El Paso County is automatically eligible to apply to receive a formula grant under the program.
TIDC's formula grant program awards funds based on the County's population and indigent defense expenditures in the previous fiscal year. For the FY 2018 grant program, El Paso County was awarded $826,342 plus an additional allocation of $45,906. In FY 2019, the County received an initial award of $640,077, plus an additional award allocation of $46,432, and for FY 2020, the County was awarded $861,661. | | Fiscal Impact: | The final amount of El Paso County's FY 2021 award will be determined at TIDC's December 2021 meeting.
