(Contract No. 2020-0797) | | Background: | On September 1, 2009, El Paso County launched an intercity bus service that linked the Town of Anthony to El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. This service is the result of an innovative partnership between the County, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). Federal Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) funds were used to launch this service. The County's Planning & Development Department, Transportation Division, has identified TxDOT Intercity Bus (ICB) funds to continue this service; this PGA is for one year of service that will continue to be managed by NMDOT.
NMDOT contracts All Aboard America for the operation of 57-passenger coaches that are ADA accessible and restroom equipped. The service operates in peak directions five days a week for a fare of $3 each way with monthly passes available at $90. There is no service on weekends or holidays. From Sept. 1, 2019 - August 31, 2020, there was an average daily ridership of 149. The service is meeting a need along this corridor and is a complement to other transportation services provided by the County's Transportation Division. | | Fiscal Impact: | Grant: $526,436.
