Courtesy cars are often made available at regional or general aviation airports to provide pilots and visitors to the facility the ability to run personal errands while refueling or visiting the airport. This service is currently offered at the general aviation airports in the region, including Marfa and Alpine's airports. The policy allows a visitor to the airport to temporarily gain access to a vehicle, while assuming all liability for use of the vehicle, to run any personal errands necessary during their stay at the Fabens Airport. The demand for this service is clear as the County's fixed-based operator has made their privately-owned vehicle available to visiting pilots in the past.
Staff continues to work with the Fleet Department to secure a vehicle for the program. As there is no proposed fee for use of the car, the selection of a durable and appropriate vehicle is necessary. Adoption of the policy allows staff to proceed with securing vehicles to add to the Airport Courtesy Car Fleet. The County will assume routine maintenance costs associated with the vehicle, however, daily fuel consumption will be the responsibility of users. Olivas Aviation has also agreed to administer this program as the County's fixed-based operator. Drivers of these units will be subject to the County Vehicle Use & Traffic Incident Policy.
