On June 1, 2020, Commissioners Court ordered that El Pasoans Fighting Hunger (EPFH) receive financial support in the amount of $500,000 from the County's CARES Act fund allocation to General Assistance. This financial support is necessary to keep up with the enormous demand of county-wide mass distribution of food staples as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While federal government relief has been provided to the food bank, additional local government support is necessary to maintain services and keep up with the demand to serve the community at large while many are still sheltering in place and food scarcity is rampant in the community.
EPFH will activate and deploy a full time mega food distribution site in a location outside the city limits of El Paso and continue to mobilize and distribute food staples via drive-through pantries community wide to include to at least three County sites at least once weekly outside the city limits to ensure that the immediate needs of rural residents are met. EPFH will track and report the amount of food distributed to out-County residents as well as the number of out-County residents receiving food staples from all mega and pantry sites.
