| Background: | The Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) awards grants to Counties reimbursing a porting of the Counties' indigent defense costs under a formula basis which considers both the County's population and indigent defense expenditures during the prior fiscal year. El Paso County is automatically eligible to apply to receive a formula grant under the program. |
| Fiscal Impact: | Grant Award - TIDC's formula grant program awards funds based on the County's population and indigent defense expenditures in the previous fiscal year with no County match required.

| Prior Action: | The Court has approved submission of grant applications to the TIDC formal grant program on an annual basis since it was established. The FY 2017 application was approved by the Court on November 14, 2016, and the FY 2018 grant award notification was presented to the Court on October 30, 2017. The Court approved submission of the FY 2019 grant application on November 5, 2018. |
