| Subject: | Approve and authorize the County Judge to sign the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) grant application for the Airport/Routine Airport Maintenance Program (RAMP) 2020 for the Fabens Airport in the amount of $25,000 with a County match of $25,000. Funding is available in GF-RAMP-XFER OUT-GRANT MATCH. (Contract No. 2019-0721) |
| Background: | This application is the initial step to allow the County to use TXDOT's Aviation funds from the RAMP program (50/50 match). The application will also allow the County and TXDOT Aviation to move forward in allowing the submittal of projects that fall under the RAMP program. This is an annual renewal for FY2020.
The program includes “lower cost” airside and landside airport improvements. These items can be more than just maintenance and may be new or additional items of work. Examples are: construction of airport entrance roads; pavement of airport public parking lots; installation of security fencing, replacement of rotating beacon, etc. TxDOT will determine the eligibility of specific items.
If funds for FY20 are approved by TxDOT, funds will be utilized for the acquisition and installation of an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). Currently, weather data for aircraft is based on weather activity at El Paso International Airport, which is located 27 miles northwest of the Fabens Airport. |
