| Background: | The County of El Paso is required by Texas Government Code Chapter 2258 to determine the prevailing rate of per diem wages for each craft or type of worker within the geographic limits of the County for public works projects. In both 2012 and 2016, at the direction of Commissioners Court, staff was directed to conduct a Prevailing Wage Rate Survey and to include representatives of the labor force, other government entities and representatives of contractors. Together these three entities make up the Prevailing Wage Rate Survey committee.
The survey process consists of designing two survey forms, one for building trades and another for heavy/highway trades. The contractors are asked to submit the project peak week payroll for their various trades during the calendar year 2018-2019. The County sends out roughly 445 (388 Mailings & 57 Electronic) surveys.
Staff is seeking approval to move forward and start the process of initiating the Prevailing Wage Rate Survey. |
