The County, through payroll deduction, provides the ability for employees to participate in the Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and/or the Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) using pre-tax dollars. The County currently has 174 employees participating in the Medical FSA and 20 employees participating in the Dependent Care FSA.
The County pays a Third Party Administrator, Aetna Life Insurance, an annual fee for the administration of the Medical FSA and Dependent Care FSA for employees.
Participants have until the end of the participating calendar year to use their Medical or Dependent Care FSA funds. After the deadline, any unused funds would be forfeited and become the property of the County held in the County’s FSA account. Over the last five years, the County has built up approximately $53,897 in forfeited funds.
Staff is requesting for the Commissioners Court to approve and authorize the expenditure of the forfeited funds.
The use of the Flexible Spending Account forfeited funds has been reviewed by the County Attorney’s Office (OP-19-753).
