| Background: | General Assistance, a unit of the Community Services Department, competes for this funding on an annual basis. These funds are available to local communities to provide a range of safety net services based on a county's rate of unemployment. These safety net services include emergency shelter, transitional shelter, food pantries, rental and mortgage assistance. The United Way of El Paso County administers this fund. The United Way hosts a local board that makes funding recommendations based on applications from community-based organizations. The County was awarded $70,183 in the most recent round of funding designated as Phase 36 to assist approximately 100 clients with rent assistance. The County has been successful in using all funds from this resource. |
