The City of San Elizario is submitting a grant application to the National Endowment of the Arts with a request of $10,000 including a $10,000 match.  This grant opportunity will allow the City of San Elizario and the surrounding community to engage in a Citizens Institute on Rural Design project.  Funds will be used for facility rentals and workshop related costs.  The CIRD will help the community address specific challenges on Main Street and within the San Elizario Arts and Historic Districts-both of which face many demands as they continue to grow and evolve as tourist destinations.

If awarded, the City of San Elizario intends to address design challenges faced in redesigning Main Street as a tourism hot spot while mitigating mobility issues and demands. The project will also address the leveraging of local businesses for economic development improvements, including branding, wayfinding, façade improvements, and streetscape design.  The CIRD project intends to integrate cultural identity as a means of driving heritage tourism.
