Item Title:SO HIDTA - FY19 - Grant Application to Office of National Drug Control Policy

Subject:Approve and authorize the El Paso County Sheriff's Office HIDTA Program to submit a grant application for multiple initiatives to the Office of National Drug Control Policy in the amount of $4,091,148, for the grant period beginning January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019.  No County match is required.  
Background:The purpose of the HIDTA Program is to reduce drug trafficking by facilitating cooperation among Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement agencies, sharing information, and implementing coordinated enforcement activities.  This program is ongoing since 1995.  West Texas HIDTA is administered by the West Texas HIDTA Director/Staff who follow all necessary guidelines set forth in the HIDTA Program Guidance and follow other federal reporting requirements and also receive guidance from the El Paso County Auditors, Purchasing Department and the Sheriff's Office as needed.
Fiscal Impact:

The Grant award for FY 2019 is $4,091,148 with no cost to the County.

 

An account will be set up at the time the grant is awarded and approved by Commissioner's Court.

Recommendation:Approve and authorize the El Paso County Sheriff's Office HIDTA Program to submit a grant application for multiple initiatives to the Office of National Drug Control Policy in the amount of $4,091,148, for the grant period beginning January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019.  No County match is required.       
Prior Action:

West Texas HIDTA Multiple Initiatives Grant Award FY 18 was approved by Commissioners' Court on March 26, 2018, Item #12.
