Item Title:Sheriff's Tobacco Enforcement Program (TEP) grant application

Subject:Approve and authorize the El Paso County Sheriff's Office to submit the Tobacco and E-Cigarette Enforcement Program grant application for local law enforcement agencies from April 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019 with no County match required.
Background:The purpose of this funding is to enforce Subchapter H, Chapter 161 Texas Health and Safety Code, § 161.082 – Sale of cigarettes, E-cigarette, or tobacco products to persons younger than 18 years of age prohibited: Proof of age required. Enforcement of minors' access to tobacco laws ensures the state’s compliance with Section 1926 of the Federal Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. Section 300x-26) and implementation of any regulations adopted by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

The County is reimbursed $100 for each compliance check conducted with a minor and two Sheriff's Deputies.

Fiscal Impact:

The grant amount awarded is unknown until an award is made.        

 

This grant application has no match requirement. The account will be set up at the time the grant is awarded and approved by County Commissioners.
