Subject:Approve and authorize the 65th District Court to apply for the Office of the Governor Criminal Justice Division (CJD) FY 2019-2020 Specialty Court Grant for $89,131 with no County match required.  Further, authorize the County Judge to sign the accompanying Resolution.
Background:

The 65th Judicial District Court an innovative family reunification program, dedicated to Child Welfare Cases with substance abuse issues.

  • Early intervention and prompt placement

  • Substance Abuse Treatment and Moral Reconation Therapy (encourage better decision making)

  • Family Strengthening Program (include children)

  • Coordinated Strategies (team approach)

  • Judicial interaction

The goal of the Family Drug Courts is to provide participants with substance abuse treatment, structure, accountability, and the necessary parenting skills to become a drug free nurturing parent.

Fiscal Impact:

Account will be set up at the time the grant is awarded and approved by Commissioners Court.

Recommendation:Approve and authorize the 65th District Court to apply for the Office of the Governor Criminal Justice Division (CJD) FY 2019-2020 Specialty Court Grant for $89,131 with no County match required.  Further, authorize the County Judge to sign the accompanying Resolution.
Prior Action:Commissioners Court has approved grant awards from the Office of the Governor Criminal Justice Department from the following years;  11/22/2010 agenda item #23, 10/3/2011 agenda item #13, 10/15/2012 agenda item #4, 9/30/2013 agenda item #6, 10/6/2014 agenda item #B, 10/5/2015 agenda item #12, 10/03/2016 item #11, 9/14/2017 item #8, and 10/01/2018 agenda item 7.
