| | Background: | The Community Services Department, through its Nutrition Program, provides home delivered meals to frail elderly and/or persons with disabilities. The City of El Paso receives Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the federal government. The County competes for CDBG funding, every two years, for the home delivered meal program. The 44th Yr Grant Award is for $43,396 and will provide a nutritious noontime home delivered meal, Mon. - Fri., to approximately 33 eligible adults, 62 years of age or older and/or persons with disabilities.
This year's award is $22,638 less than last year's award due to an overall decrease in entitlement CDBG funds to the City of El Paso. The County's Nutrition Program is still the largest recipient of City CDBG funds in the Senior Citizens/Disability funding category. The shortage in meals as a result of this funding decrease will be covered by other grant fund sources. | | Fiscal Impact: | Grant award is for $43,396 for one year. No cash match is required but the program's county-funded operational budget is committed as in-kind services for this program.
