On April 9, 2018, Commissioners Court authorized Public Works to submit letters of intent (LOI) for funding that was available through the department to The Texas Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) established to mitigate flooding issues. Public Works had prioritized and submitted applications for 11 projects including two applications partnering with the City of Socorro and El Paso County Water Improvement District No. 1.
Early in November Public Works was notified that the County would not be receiving any funds from the HMGP due to the high demands for the funds. They did however mention that the HMGP had a new pot of money that appeared promising to the County and submissions for the new funds must be done before December 15, 2018. Public Works is now working on prioritizing the previously submitted projects to bring back to the Court recommendations for the new submittal but need access rights to e_Grants System to start the process and access requires the County Judges signature.
Public Works will be bringing forth an agenda item in early December requesting approval of the proposed priority list as well as authorization to submit the new applications.
Form has been reviewed and approved by the County Attorneys office.
