During FY19 Budget meetings, HR introduced the concept of creating a Career Progression Plan for Deputy Constable positions within the County, and requested funding be set aside to support the plan. Funds were set aside during the FY19 Budget hearings in the amount of $55,000.
At this time, HR is seeking approval of the Career Progression Plan (attached policy). This plan was designed to align the career goals of our Constables Offices with the County’s mission, goals and objectives. The purpose of the plan is to provide Deputy Constables with skill development opportunities to enhance their performance in their current positions and assist them in achieving their personal and professional goals. Specifically, the plan supports for eligible Deputy Constables the following:
- Payment for TCOLE certification;
- Payment for Higher Education; and
- Payment for Longevity.
Overall, the County’s success is contingent upon retention of competent employees who are motivated and challenged. This plan ensures Deputy Constables continue performing at optimum levels, while serving to protect and preserve the safety of the El Paso Community.
This plan has been reviewed by the County Attorney's Office.
