In an effort to control healthcare costs, the
County’s Risk Pool Board developed a Strategic Employee Health and Wellness plan
and implemented disease fighting strategies, education, and activities that
support healthy lifestyle changes to create a more productive and engaged
workforce while achieving healthcare savings.
As part of the effort to support the County’s
Strategic Goals, implement healthy lifestyle changes, improve activity for both short and
long term health benefits, and after discussions and information gained from various
health entities, consultants, and employee surveys, staff recommended the
development of an Employee Fitness and Wellness Center in the unused space on
the Lower Level of the County Courthouse.
On August 11, 2017, the Commissioners Court
approved the implementation and budget of an Employee Fitness Center; on September
25, 2017, the Commissioners Court approved an architectural services proposal with
Carl Daniels Architect for design work needed to complete the Employee Fitness
Center; and on January 25, 2018, the Commissioners Court received a
presentation and provided direction on the Employee Fitness Center Floor Plan
developed by Carl Daniels Architect.
After working with County Public Works
Department, IT Department, and Human Resources staff, Carl Daniels Architect Services
developed the final architectural design which is being presented to the
Commissioners Court for any input and will be used by the Public Works and
Purchasing Department to obtain Construction Bids.

July 25, 2016 (Item 6A), Commissioners Court received a Presentation on the County’s Strategic Employee Health and Wellness Plan for 2016 and proposed Employee Fitness Center.
July 25, 2016 (Item 13), Commissioners Court approved the request to remodel approximately $15,000 square feet of the courtyard space for the Employee Fitness Center (County Courthouse, Lower Level).
January 23, 2017 (Item H), Commissioners Court approved the Contract with Carl Daniels Architect for on-call architectural services on a task order basis.
August 11, 2017 (Item 2), Special Commissioners Court meeting: Commissioners Court approved implementation and budget of Employee Fitness Center as presented during budget hearings.
August 28, 2017 (Item 31), Special Commissioners Court meeting: Commissioners Court approved budget which included $531,000 to Capital Account for use in the Employee Fitness Center and Risk Fund Account which included $906,000 for the Employee Fitness Center.
September 25, 2017 (Item 23), Commissioners Court approved the proposal using the on-call Services Agreement with Carl Daniels Architect for the design work needed to complete the Employee Fitness Center.
January 25, 2018 (Special Meeting), Commissioners Court discussed and provided direction on the Employee Fitness Center Floor Plan.
