The County of El Paso provides salary supplements for five (5) positions within the Texas Agrilife staffing and funds three (3) additional positions from the general fund.

Recently, Texas Agrilife restructured their teams throughout the state which impacted the director role at the El Paso County office. In working with the state, they have identified Ms. Denise Rodriguez as the person most qualified to assume these duties for the El Paso branch. Ms. Rodriguez previously served as the HEA Horticulture Agent for this branch.

The HR Department has recognized the need to provide administrative support to the AgriLife Director, and is requesting to utilize the salary funds of $33,098 allotted for the HEA Horticulture position to be used for a part time Office Assistant (GS07). The request for this position is to assist the Director with administrative duties. These duties are specific to the program and would require the Director to provide direct oversight to the position.

Although there is a savings from this reorganization, the creation of the new position requires Commissioners Court approval before changes may occur. HR is supportive of this request.

As the salary is already approved there would not be an impact to the current budget. The budget impact for this part time position is $23,036 and $603 for auto allowance. However, there is $33,098 budgeted for a position supplement (HEA Horticulture) that will be eliminated from the staffing table. Overall there will be a savings to the County budget, in the amount of $10,062.
