Item Title: | Fleet - Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) grant |
Submitted By: | Hopeton Staple, Director, Fleet Operations Department (915) 546-2057 |
Subject: | Approve and authorize the Fleet Department to apply for the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan grant, from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, in the amount of $851,769 to replace approximately twelve (12) heavy duty vehicles with newer vehicles certified to emit less nitrate oxide. |
Background: | The Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) provides financial incentives to eligible individuals, businesses or local governments to reduce emissions from polluting vehicles and equipment. The emission of nitrogen
oxide (NOx) must result in reductions of at least 25% to be eligible.
The County of El Paso's Fleet Department is attempting to receive reimbursement from the TCEQ for replacing 12 older vehicles with newer vehicles if the cost per ton of NOx emissions are reduced by at least 25%. The emission levels for the baseline and reduced-emission engines are calculated separately and then the differences are taken to determine emission reductions. Once awarded the County must discard the 12 older vehicles. |
Fiscal Impact: | An account will be set-up at the time the grant is awarded and approved by Commissioner's Court. |
Recommendation: | Approve and authorize the Fleet Department to apply for the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan grant, from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, in the amount of $851,769 to replace approximately twelve (12) heavy duty vehicles with newer vehicles certified to emit less nitrate oxide. |
