Mankato Road is one of the roads that experiences flooding issues during the monsoon season. Mankato road has a low water crossing that has the potential of conveying 380 cubic feet of water per second during a 100 year storm event. In an effort to contain some of the flooding that occurs on this road, the residents have requested the temporary closure of Mankato.
The temporary closure would allow the Road and Bridge department to install temporary earthen berms to contain portions of the runoff within the designated arroyo path. While this is not a permanent solution to the area, the berms will minimize the amount of water and debris that is deposited along Mankato.
The berms will not fully detain a 100 year storm event, they will allow the water to follow the path that is intended until the arroyo is cleared to discharge into the Mesa spur drain. This measure is to try to minimize the effects of smaller storm events that will result in nuisance muddy conditions for the residents.
